"Women" Group Show & Nikki Conigliaro & Lana Matskiv Solo Shows

Greetings artists and friends of the gallery!

Our March Online Group Art Show "Women" goes live today! Throughout history and across the globe, women were often seen as the embodiment of good virtue, nurture, care, and compassion.

In the 21st Century Women have transitioned from traditional gender roles and presentation to anything they want to be and do.

In art, Women have been one of the most popular subjects for artists since the Prehistoric period and now in our March Online Group Artshow, we showcase artworks that depict Women.

After completing her studies Nikki went on to be Head of Art and Design, Photography, and Media Studies in a school outside London before moving back to the Lake District in 2010. Nikki currently teaches full-time A-level and Post 18 Art, Design, and Photography as well as working on her own creative practice. Nikki has always worked on her own creative practice whilst working full time and completed commissions over the years in a variety of media and subject matter as well as being a lifestyle and wedding photographer for a short time.

Nikki lives with her Italian husband and two boys and can be found avidly reading or walking their beagle in the beautiful surroundings of the Lakes when she isn’t teaching or being creative.

"When I consider my own artwork, I often struggle to find the words to describe my work, creating art is a need for me, to unload my thoughts and emotions. My artwork comes from within and often contains locations or motifs that are personal or from my surroundings. I have always enjoyed color and nature, and when I paint, I love exploring different color palettes to provoke different emotions and feelings. Art to me should be something to be enjoyed and bring different meanings to those who look upon it.

I enjoy working with portraits, the human face can show a variety of emotions and can create mystery and intrigue. I have a passion and love for lighting, color, and a sense of narrative within my work due to my background in film. My love of narrative and storytelling within the image, I hope creates intrigue and invites the viewer to interpret ideas for themselves, to question and be thoughtful."

You can enjoy more of Nikki's art here:

Congratulations Nikki and please enjoy her show everyone!

Solo Show by Lana Matskiv

Lana Matskiv our ArtPlacer Castle artist, opens her Solo Show today and the show runs until March 31st. Visit Lana's Virtual Showroom.

Lana Matskiv is a Ukrainian Canadian artist, who works in oil and graphite. Seven years ago, she walked away from a successful legal career as she had stories to tell on canvases and paper –those of her Ukrainian roots and people she met on the journey to her new homeland of Canada. Since then, she participated in numerous group shows both in Canada and the US, had a solo show at the Toronto Shevchenko Museum and HMVC Gallery in New Your, NY, USA, auctioned her works through Waddington’s for charities in aid of Ukraine, and received awards at international art competitions.

Lana creates figurative symbolist works painting in layers with painstaking attention to tale-telling details, old masters’ style. The dramatic colors of the Baroque chiaroscuro tradition push her personages to the frontal plane of the painting, bringing them out of the frame and closer to the viewer. Characters and allegoric objects in Lana’s paintings speak for humanity. They engage you with their intense gaze, contrasting colors, and contextual setting. They establish an immediate emotional connection and an in-depth look into their personal realities and history. Whether dressed up in stage costumes or stripped naked, Lana’s subjects come alive through the artist’s exploration of their souls in realistic or imaginary settings.

April Online Group Show!

While ”Flower Power” was a slogan used by Hippies opposing the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 70s America, we want to use it to celebrate Flowers & Art in our April online group art show.

Throughout history, humans have used flowers to communicate their emotions and to commemorate various occasions. Still-life paintings of wilting flowers were meant to capture the fleeting nature of human life. In France and England, the aristocrats covered their palaces with floral wallpaper.

Botanical illustrations brought art and science together dating this art practice to the 1st Century B.C. In the Victorian era, the Pre-Raphaelite artists filled their paintings with hidden botanical symbolism. And we shall not forget Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic sunflowers.

Flowers have a lot of other historical significance across the globe so to welcome the arrival of Spring our April online group art show celebrates flowers. We welcome artworks depicting Flowers from all mediums of visual art, except video/film.

★ Digital entries must be received by March 28th, 2023 before 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.
