Spencer Frazer Solo Show & June call for art w/$Cash Awards and Times Square feature

Spencer Frazer

Spencer Frazer our VR Solo Manor artist opens his Solo Show today and the show runs until June 10th.

Spencer Frazer, the founder of SOG Knives and Tools, was known as one of the industries foremost designers of innovative award-winning outdoor gear. He is also a master Japanese aesthetic pruner and garden builder.

Born and raised in Los Angeles he moved to Seattle in 1989 to be closer to the outdoors. Exploring the wilds of Alaska and Canada, he became passionate about the environment and how it has been affected by man-made climate change.

A self-taught artist, Spencer's work is collected regionally and has been shown internationally winning top awards. He was the artist in residence at Artsfund, one of the leading art organizations in the Northwest. His work has been seen by millions on national news features that include CBS This Morning, Washington Post, CNN International, Fox News, etc. as well as numerous online media.

"Since ancient times man has used art to tell stories and document events. My work follows this tradition with a commentary on global climate change and environmental imbalance. When I moved to the Northwest in the early 90’s I became enamored with the power, beauty, and spirit of the land. It was a visual revelation that I attempt to communicate in every piece.

Often using wildlife to create a point of view, the paintings depict the results of the human impact on the earth. Embedded with a unique visual language of intricate and subliminal patterns, the work bridges the literal and the imaginative. One of the underlying principles of the work is to create pieces where 'The sum of the parts is greater than the whole'. I explore the relationships between man and nature and pose the question: Is man part of nature or in opposition to the natural process? It's an interesting question that is answered philosophically based on an adopted perspective. My work attempts to create a conversation about this by interjecting a human representation or activity in contrast to the natural world. The resultant tension can help us reveal our personal truths of who we are as a species and our place in this world’s future."

June Online Group Show!

In old English, the word ”home” refers to a town or a place where many souls gather.

The modern definition of home states that home is “the abiding place of the affections” which perfectly sums up how most people today regard their homes.

When we are born, our first impression of home is the place our parents made for us.

As we grow and leave that home, we start to build our own ideas of what home is. The majority of us end up building a home that is very different from the one we started our life journey in, whether it be a new apartment, house, town, or community.

Artists have a long history of documenting the places they call home. Claude Monet painted the gardens at his Giverny home, Helene Schjerfbeck painted family members and events that took place at her home, and Andy Warhol photographed his studio ”the factory” in New York City.

So we can conclude that the concept of home is universal, in the end, we end up creating a home that is unique to us.

This time in our June online group art show we celebrate artworks depicting the concept of homes. We welcome artworks from all mediums of visual art, except Abstract art, AI-created art, and video/film.
