From a young age, it was clear that the Dutch artist Feike de Vries had a real talent and passion for drawing. His parents recognized this and supported him to explore this. Although his first choice was primary school teaching, he also attended night art school in Leeuwarden, the capital town of Friesland. By becoming head of a Summerhill-type school (1979) he fulfilled a longing that was also part of his artistic urge: focusing on the individual needs of the pupils and making them think about themselves. In 1998 – being a father of three young kids and with the full support of his wife – he took the step to dedicate all of his time to art. In his backyard, he built his own studio, a direct link to his roots, coming from a family of constructors.

Ever since, he works tirelessly in this studio, calling himself "the artist who juggles techniques". Feike de Vries uses pastel, oil paint, screen paint, and lino-block print. He likes to be challenged and is always willing to step out of his comfort zone, for example by creating a war memorial and creating street art using mosaic. His paintings are exhibited in his own country, Belgium, Britain, and the Czech Republic. Under normal circumstances, he welcomes visitors to his studio, with an annual exhibition throughout his house and garden.

"I am deeply inspired by Surrealism and its wide range of influences. It has been central to my work from the start, as well as the philosophy of Freud’s pupil Carl Jung who inspired the surrealists, and the psychiatrist who focussed on keeping the soul healthy. In my studio, I create a world where dreams, reality, and biblical connections mix together. I like to make people think about themselves and their daily life with wise remarks or get them to look in the mirror by using metaphors and double layers."

In March we celebrate International Women's Day.

Throughout history and across the globe, women were often seen as the embodiment of good virtue, nurture, care, and compassion.

In the 21st Century Women have transitioned from traditional gender roles and presentation to anything they want to be and do.

In art, Women have been one of the most popular subjects for artists since the Prehistoric period and now in our March Online Group Artshow, we want to see female-centric artworks.

We welcome artworks depicting Women from all mediums of visual art, except video/film.
