"Abstract is Abstract" Group Show & Steve Walag solo show

Greetings artists and friends of the gallery!

Our May Online Group Art Show "Abstract is Abstract" goes live today!

Boldness and experimentation with color are used to describe Abstract art as it is free from the rules of traditional form-focused art practices. Abstract art's key elements are the symbolic function of color, the rhythm of forms, and their independence from a subject, resulting in the artist having complete autonomy to express their emotions and showcase their artistic abilities without restrictions. With these words, we'd like to give you this Abstract group show featuring 83 artists.

Solo Show by Steve Walag

We are happy to announce that Steve Walag, the Solo Show winner from "Flower Power!" premiers his Show today, and the show runs between May 1 - 31st.

You can view the show on our Website and in our Virtual Gallery.

Steve Walag has been a photographer for nearly 50 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Religious Studies from the University of California, Riverside (UCR) and a BFA in Photography from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. It is only since 2015 that his attraction to Japanese art led him to formulate the style you see in the show.

Although Steve’s images may resemble paintings, they are in fact digital photographs printed on textured paper. They were inspired by traditional Japanese paintings in the centuries-old Rinpa tradition. Rinpa artists favored simple, natural subjects – flowers, trees, birds, and landscapes – set against a plain or minimized background. Steve’s fascination with Japanese art led him to emulate those works using digital imaging, lighting, software, and printing techniques.

Congratulations Steve and please enjoy his show everyone!

June Online Group Show!

In old English, the word ”home” refers to a town or a place where many souls gather.

The modern definition of home states that home is “the abiding place of the affections” which perfectly sums up how most people today regard their homes.

When we are born, our first impression of home is the place our parents made for us.

As we grow and leave that home, we start to build our own ideas of what home is. The majority of us end up building a home that is very different from the one we started our life journey in, whether it be a new apartment, house, town, or community.

Artists have a long history of documenting the places they call home. Claude Monet painted the gardens at his Giverny home, Helene Schjerfbeck painted family members and events that took place at her home, and Andy Warhol photographed his studio ”the factory” in New York City.

So we can conclude that the concept of home is universal, in the end, we end up creating a home that is unique to us.

This time in our June online group art show we celebrate artworks depicting the concept of homes. We welcome artworks from all mediums of visual art, except Abstract art, AI-created art, and video/film.

★ Digital entries must be received by May 28th, 2023 before 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.

★ Notification of acceptance will be sent by email by May 31st.

★ The show will premiere on June 1st and end on June 30th.
